Sunday Post: Trip to Chicago

Weekly meme to talk about books and a little my personal life last week

Sunday-Post

Kimberly hosts the Sunday Post each week. I like to take part because it gives me an opportunity to look back at last week and forward to next week in both my personal life and my blog and book life! I also love to see what other people are doing and what books everyone is reading.

Personal life

I spent a lot of last week getting ready to go to Chicago for our niece’s wedding. I don’t wear dresses much anymore so I had to find the dress I had in mind to wear, make sure it didn’t need cleaning, that it still fit and find all the stuff to wear with it and make sure they fit! Then we had to get up at 5:00 a.m. on Friday to drive to Chicago. Now that we’re back home I’m ready for some rest!

Chicago wedding

We just got back from the Chicago wedding for one of our nieces. The wedding was beautiful and lots of fun. It was held outside at a nature preserve and was a little breezy which helped since it was also humid! Afterward the reception was held at an Irish bar. It was a large Irish bar and the entire bar was rented for the reception for five hours! Very nice to talk to people, sample appetizer foods, drink some Guinness, watch people dancing upstairs.

All the activities related to the wedding occurred near the Chicago River so we stayed at a hotel near the river. The pictures above show the river.

Blog life

I didn’t get as much done on my blog as I’d planned. I was distracted trying to remember what I needed to do for our trip as well as having a number of appointments to take care of.

Last Week–home and blog

Wedding–Here we come!

My youngest daughter, my son and I are headed to Wisconsin for a wedding on Saturday. One of our favorite nephews is getting married and we’re so happy for him and his bride.

We are leaving on Thursday afternoon and driving part way stopping in Decorah, Iowa for the night. Decorah is a small town, but is renowned for its Norwegian museum, microbrewery–Toppling Goliath–and Luther College. Quite a lot of renown for a town of about 8,100 people!

Friday morning we’re heading to Wausau, WI where we’re staying. The wedding is in a small town nearby on Saturday afternoon, but we have activities for Friday afternoon and evening. Then the wedding on Saturday and reception and dinner Saturday night.

My husband, son and I are driving back to Des Moines on Sunday. Our daughters will arrive a little later in the week and we are all spending Christmas here in Des Moines!

Television

I watched the first episode of Expanse and liked that. I didn’t have time to watch the second episode or anything else!

The blog

I’m behind on my book reviews so was glad to post three of them again this week. Not much reading or commenting done this week. It’s been a very busy week.

Next Week–home & blogMerry-Christmas

We are in Des Moines for most of Christmas week. We have a special treat during the day on Christmas Eve. We’re going to see Star Wars at the IMAX theater in town! We try to see a new movie every year during the Christmas holidays. We’re super excited it’s Star Wars this year.

My husband and I drive to Illinois the day after Christmas and then fly back home on Sunday, 27 December. I’ve loved my time in the Midwest and spending so much time with my children, but it will be good to get home, spend one-on-one time with my husband and see my cats. I’ve missed them all so much!

Since we’re flying on Sunday I’m not sure I will have time to do a Sunday Post.

Last Week–home and blog

Mid-December already??!

Hard to believe it’s the middle of December already. The weather has been in thchristmas-treee 50’s most of the week and it just doesn’t feel like December.

A quiet week here in Iowa where I’m spending most of the month. My daughter was gone to a conference most of the week and my son was working every day on his computer here at home. We went out to dinner with the next door neighbors one night and that was fun.

We did get the Christmas tree up and decorated which was fun. The tree is so pretty with its multi-colored lights and decorations.

Television

Big Bang Theory was so good this week!

The blog

I’m behind on my book reviews so was glad to post three of them this week. I especially want to get the Christmas books I’ve read reviewed before Christmas!

I arrived in Iowa yesterday. I was surprised there’s no snow here. When I left Maryland we had roadside snow piled up. However, both Iowa and Maryland will have warmer weather this week! Spring is coming. 🙂

I had a good reading week and manged to finish posting all my COYER reviews this week. COYER is over and I read and reviewed 17 books during the reading challenge.
