Sunday Post: Rain all week

Weekly meme to talk about books and a little about our lives

Sunday-Post

Kimberly hosts the Sunday Post each week. I like to take part because it gives me an opportunity to look back at last week and forward to next week in both my personal life and my blog and book life! I also love to see what other people are doing and what books everyone is reading.

Personal life

We had rain all week and it was wonderful. I’ve mentioned several times that parts of Iowa are suffering from drought. This rain really helped. Here in Des Moines we got about 3 inches though other parts of the state had more. It was cool all week, too. Nice weather!

Quick trip to Indiana

We’re making a quick trip to Indiana on Sunday. We are thinking of moving to Indiana so we’ll be closer to our two daughters. We’re considering buying a house that will have to be built and we discovered Saturday evening that the site we are interested in is now available so we’re driving there to take a look at everything again to make a final decision. So I will be away from my blog for several days.

We’re getting new carpet later this month so we’ve been very busy emptying bookcases and other things which will have to get moved from the existing carpet. At the same time we’re emptying bookcases and cabinets we’re also deciding what to keep and what to throw away or give away.

Blog Life

Because we’re sorting and cleaning I didn’t have as much time as I hoped I would to visit other blogs or to read.

Reading

I finished one book this week and am part way into another one. I should have more time for reading during the long car ride!

Sunday Post: Spring weather

Sunday-Post

Spring snowfall

Kimberly hosts the Sunday Post each week. I like to take part because it gives me an opportunity to look back at last week and forward to next week in both my personal life and my blog and book life! I also love to see what other people are doing and what books everyone is reading.

Personal life

Spring is here with the temperatures and weather all over the place! It rained all day Saturday and we had a high temperature of 55. Nice spring weather! That meant every time the dogs went out we had to wipe their paws before they could come back in! Lots of standing water in the yard.

Then in the evening I looked out the window and it was snowing hard…big, fluffy flakes! The temperature had dropped to 32 degrees and it was in the 20’s Saturday night. It’s a sunny day on Sunday, but not very warm–at about 33 degrees for a high temperature. Spring weather indeed!

Taking care of dogs

My husband and I are here for another week while our daughter is on vacation in Scotland. We’re taking care of her dogs. My son is also on this trip so he flew from Seattle to Indianapolis to drop off his mini dachshund so I can take care of him, too! I love spending time with the dogs–Bailey and Juneau, the two Labs–and Donnie, the mini dachshund.

While we’re here our daughter got us tickets to two plays–A Doll House. Part 2 and The Importance of Being Earnest. We’re really looking forward to both plays. They’re in different theaters so we get to see two theaters we haven’t been before and that’s always fun.

Blog life

A little reading, a few comments and a few posts.

Sunday Post: More Autumn Rain

Sunday-Post

Kimberly hosts the Sunday Post each week. I like to take part because it gives me an opportunity to look back at last week and forward to next week in both my personal life and my blog and book life! I also love to see what other people are doing and what books everyone is reading.

Home

My daughter is out-of-town again this weekend so we’re watching her dogs and, of course, we had heavy rain and thunderstorms again on Saturday! Almost an inch of rain so the dogs didn’t go outside very much on Saturday. More mud, but I admit I don’t mind too much as I enjoy the dogs.

It was only 70 degrees, but very humid so I’m glad that on Sunday it’s only supposed to be a high of 57 degrees and a low of 39 degrees Sunday night. However, I have to remember to move the houseplants back inside today. We’re hoping to get all the bulbs I ordered planted next week.

Television

We finished watching Ken Burns’ Vietnam. Very intense, but very good. We watched the final game between the Chicago Cubs and the Washington Nationals. It was a great game and the Cubs ended up winning. We enjoy watching Stephen Colbert on The Late Show. We TiVo it and watch it the next day! We record most of our shows and watch them later.

Blog

I did a little blogging. I’m still having trouble reviewing books. I love reading the books, but I’ve lost my enthusiasm for writing reviews. Can I have a book blog if I don’t review books??? I don’t know. I still love seeing what other people are reading and reviewing and love to comment on their blogs.

I’m also excited that Kimberly is hosting the HoHoHo Readathon again this year and have already signed up for it. Fall is one of my favorite times of the year. It has so many things I love: beautiful leaves, cooler weather, a sense of exciting things coming–Thanksgiving, snow, Christmas! And holiday books!

Another busy week. My allergies frustrated me all week since it keeps me blowing my nose even though I take allergy pills every day. My husband worked in the yard a lot this week. He found a few plants on sale including a small tree so those got planted plus the fence addition is finished and he’s working on a new flowerbed for me. I came outside and gave moral support! Luckily, all the plants were planted before the rains came! According to my rain gauge we got about three inches of rain over about three days. Since it was a dry summer it is really good to get rain and more is forecast for next week.

My husband is visiting his dad this weekend and I’m taking care of my daughter’s dogs while she’s out-of-town. They’re lots of company, but I’ve spent a lot of time drying off and wiping mud from the dogs’ feet! My daughter had a trial version of a meal delivery service she hadn’t had time to fix so I fixed the Tomato-Braised Cod. I haven’t tried any of these services before. The cod was good though I had to throw away some of the chard included in the box (received two days before).

Television

We watched more of Ken Burns’ Vietnam. Very intense, but very good. I watched the Chicago Cubs and Washington Nationals baseball games on Friday and Saturday nights. One win for each team.

Blogging

I’m still trying to get more blogging done. I am reading some really good books which is great!
