Sunday Post: Snow showers today

Connecting with others to talk about books plus a little about our personal lives

Sunday-Post

Kimberly hosts the Sunday Post each week. I like to take part because it gives me an opportunity to look back at last week and forward to next week in both my personal life and my blog and book life! I also love to see what other people are doing and what books everyone is reading.

Personal life

We have some snow showers mixed at times with rain showers this Sunday morning. There shouldn’t be any snow accumulation, but it’s cold out! However, by midweek we should have temps in the 50’s during the day.

Thanksgiving Prep

Thanksgiving is on November 25 this year in the U.S. and it’s a favorite time in our family. We didn’t get together with our whole family last year so those of us getting together this year are looking forward to seeing each other. Our niece and her family are hosting Thanksgiving and they live only about 20 minutes from us. It’s so nice not to have to travel far on Thanksgiving. However, we do have family flying in from Seattle and southern California and others driving from Illinois, Iowa, northern Wisconsin and Canada so it’s quite a trip for lots of the family. We expect to have about 45 adults and children attend this year. I’m so happy that our kids will all be here.

We’ve invited the family for brunch at our new house on Thanksgiving morning. It’s a chance for the out-of-town family to see the new house. My husband and I are working to make sure our house is tidy. We have boxes we still needed to unpack so having people come to our house has spurred us on.

I’m also cooking two smaller turkeys (around 13 pounds each) as well as making turkey gravy, a wild rice pilaf and cranberry chutney. Several of those things can be made ahead and frozen so that’s what I’m trying to get done so I can enjoy the day and catch-up with family members.

Scarecrow

We’ve put a scarecrow up near our front door. We also have a ring doorbell that lets us know when someone comes to the door. Since we put the scarecrow up we have gotten a number of “false” alarms from the ring doorbell–especially when the wind is blowing and the scarecrow swings this way and that!

Olaf

Olaf loves to hide in paper bags and then jump out to surprise us. We moved a bookcase near one of his towers and he discovered he could jump up to the top of the bookcase to hang out!

Blog

It’s been two weeks since I posted anything. November and December are busy months for me so my blogging is suffering. I have read and listened to some good books though. That relaxes me when I’m feeling stressed! I found some Christmas books to get from the library so I hope I find time to read those.

Sunday Post: More snow and cold weather

Weekly meme to talk about books and a little about my personal life

Sunday-Post

Kimberly hosts the Sunday Post each week. I like to take part because it gives me an opportunity to look back at last week and forward to next week in both my personal life and my blog and book life! I also love to see what other people are doing and what books everyone is reading.

Personal life

I discovered I forgot to schedule this post to publish this morning. Better late than never, I guess!

More snow this week

We had a dusting of snow one or two days last week, but on Friday it snowed all day. We got nearly 6 inches of snow. And then in the evening we got some freezing rain on top of the snow. The freezing rain was really a good thing since it was really windy on Saturday and further north where there was just snow the wind blew the snow and made it very hazardous to drive. Saturday the temperature also dropped during the day. By late afternoon it was 9 degrees F. (-12.7 C.) and with the wind blowing felt like -9 degrees (-22.7 C.)!

Since it was a cold and snowy week I didn’t go out too much. I did quite a bit of reading and listened to audiobooks while I worked on a jigsaw puzzle. It was quite an easy puzzle, but lots of fun since I liked the picture.

Allergies and a cold

I had more allergies this week and then one day when what I thought was allergies lasted more than 24 hours I decided I have a cold! My husband was sick earlier in the week so it’s not surprising I caught his cold. I hope it goes away soon!

Blog Life

With my cold I didn’t feel much like writing or thinking for that matter…lol. So I still didn’t get all the posts finished that I’ve got started. But maybe this next week.
