Sunday Post: To Michigan and back

Connecting with others to talk about books plus a little about our personal lives

Kimberly hosts the Sunday Post each week. I like to take part because it gives me an opportunity to look back at last week and forward to next week in both my personal life and my blog and book life! I also love to see what other people are doing and what books everyone is reading.

Personal life

We’ve had lots of fall weather this last week! Cool temperatures and some rain at times.

Only one of my daughters was able to go to Michigan this week. We were sorry Kate (my older daughter) couldn’t get away from work, but Karen (my younger daughter) and I had a great time together. And Kate has come to visit us for a long weekend. She has to go home Monday or Tuesday.

Karen and I left Wednesday morning for southwestern Michigan. The drive took about three hours since we made a few stops along the way. We couldn’t check into our airbnb until later in the afternoon so it was great to take our time and enjoy the drive.

We took one of Karen’s dogs, Bailey with us. Her yellow lab Juneau doesn’t always get along with other dogs. (She was bitten by another dog a few years ago when she was in doggy day care so she’s afraid.) Bailey had a wonderful time being the only dog for a change and Juneau was spoiled by my husband!

I hadn’t been to this part of Lake Michigan before. And it’s beautiful. Lots of cute towns, beaches and autumn foliage. I’m sure it’s very crowded in the summer since those cute little towns have some nice restaurants, gift stores, beaches and views. We found a couple of bookstores and bought some books plus we found places we could take Bailey. One brewery allowed dogs because they didn’t serve food so that was nice. Bailey loved it since everyone wanted to pet her.

The above slideshow shows some of our sights during the weekend. We had some wind and rain, but that made the waves on Lake Michigan fun to watch. It didn’t rain constantly so we got out for walks with Bailey who didn’t mind getting wet at all! We got home Friday afternoon. We had a great time and plan to visit again.

Weekend cooking

On Saturday Kate made a birthday crepe cake for her sister’s birthday since she hadn’t been here to celebrate earlier in the month. It was so fun to watch her put together the cake. While the cake was chilling we played cards. The cake tasted so good. It was a fun day.

I managed to visit a few book blogs and made a few comments before we left for Michigan on Wednesday morning. It’s always nice to see what people are doing and what they’re reading.
