Sunday Post: In Illinois this week

weekly meme to talk about books and a little about our personal lives

Kimberly hosts the Sunday Post each week. I like to take part because it gives me an opportunity to look back at last week and forward to next week in both my personal life and my blog and book life! I also love to see what other people are doing and what books everyone is reading.

Personal life

Our yard continues to give me lots of joy. The flowers at the left are ones we planted in the spring and are autumn blooming. Such a beautiful, bright yellow.

Another busy week

Our carpet gets installed next week and we discovered we had to remove either our drawers or take everything out of the drawers before the installers will move things out of rooms as they work. That meant a bit more work!

At the end of the week I came to my Illinois daughter’s home with our two cats. We’ll stay here all week while the carpet is installed and our driveway gets some repairs. It’s great to see my daughter and the cats are settling in.

Olaf–One year old!

With everything going on I forgot to mention that my kitten is now one year old and is now a cat! Olaf loves to play and even brings back toys I throw for him. He weighs about 16 pounds now.

Blog Life

Another week I didn’t get to many blogs or many comments. I hope this next week I can visit and find out what other people have been reading and doing.

I love to read--especially mysteries, science fiction and fantasy. I also love blogging, photography, gardening, playing Mah Jonng, reading with a cat on my lap, throwing a ball for a dog, creating cards to send to family and friends, reading book blogs, using my computer.

  1. Yes, Olaf is a cutie and such soft fur. Such a fun cat to have around. The carpet installation has taken a lot of time that’s for sure!

  2. Lovely flowers! And lovely cat! Big, though. 16 lbs? Is he a Maine Coone? I hope your carpet install goes well. We’re holding off on indoor work for now, but at some point, we’re going to have all the floors done, probably replacing the carpets with hardwood or laminate. I’m not looking forward to packing up all the books and trinkets and such!

    1. He’s a ragdoll cat, Lark. His dad was over 20 lbs! I wanted to put in hardwood floor, but we decided it was too expensive and then we decided we were going to move closer to our kids. So we’re buying a house that’s being built and we were able to get all hard surface floors so that makes me happy! The yard is much, much smaller, but my husband decided it’s better to go with smaller now that we’re getting older. And packing everything so we could move things off the carpet was time consuming, but we also got rid of a lot of stuff!

      1. The purging will make the move easier! And a smaller yard probably does make sense as you get older. A yard is a lot of work. It will be nice being closer to your kids, too. I’d love to be closer to Robin, but Mr. Bookwyrm is nowhere near retirement (another 10 years, probably), so it’s not likely for a while.

        1. You’re right, Lark. I’m glad that we’re getting sorting and purging done. We’ve done some purging in every move, but this move we’re doing lots more.

We’ve found some of the artwork and school papers we’d saved and we’ve given it to each of our children which has been really nice. And we’ve gone through boxes which we moved a number of times mostly because I didn’t think I could get rid of them. And now I am ready to let go of more things!

    1. Thanks, Anne! It has been hard at times, but I try to keep in mind that unless we love it or one of our kids wants it, it’s better to let go of stuff.

  3. Olaf is such a beauty! Flooring is such a huge hassle but definitely worth it. Hope you have a lovely week. That Colgan is one of my favorites!

    1. Olaf has been such a joy to see grow from a kitten to an adult cat during these sometimes stressful months. He’s got lots of personality!

  4. Such beautiful flowers! Mine yard is so bare. I am glad you are to spend time time with your daughter. I hope everything goes well with the carpet laying and repairs to your driveway. Olaf is so precious! I hope you are enjoying the weekend! Happy Reading!
