Sunday Post: Snow and cold weather

Weekly meme to talk about books and a little about my personal life

Kimberly hosts the Sunday Post each week. I like to take part because it gives me an opportunity to look back at last week and forward to next week in both my personal life and my blog and book life! I also love to see what other people are doing and what books everyone is reading.

Personal life

We had our first significant snow–still only about 3 inches. Originally we were forecast to receive 4-8 inches, but the snow we have may stay around for awhile since the forecast for the next week is for days and nights below freezing. One of the above photos shows my husband snow blowing our driveway after dark. We have to clear off our driveway even if we get an inch of snow because otherwise we can’t get up the driveway! Luckily, he likes to get outside and clear the driveway (and he loves his snow blower!) We might get a little more snow today and tonight.

I’ve had allergies showing up during the day and sometimes at night. I regularly take allergy pills and my allergies have been better for months, but this last week was awful. I’m hoping next week will be better. Maybe the snow and cold weather will help.

Canvass and Caucus

My husband spent most of the days last week volunteering for one of the Presidential candidates. Since the Iowa caucuses are only about three weeks away canvassing and getting people out to talk about their favorite candidates is vital. I’m still undecided. I have a few candidates I know I won’t caucus for and two or three that I’m still thinking about. I’m excited to caucus though since I’ve never done it before and I think it’s quite a unique way for the Iowa populace to get together and let their voices be heard.

I’ve started watching The Family Farm on Acorn. I’m enjoying it quite a bit. I like reality shows that show groups of people–especially families–trying something totally different from their regular lives. And I especially like this because it does show a way of life that many people have no idea about.

Blog Life

I’m continuing to read good books which is always a joy especially at the beginning of the year.

Since my allergies were bothering me I didn’t do as much on my blog or visiting other blogs as I’d wanted. Luckily, I had a few posts ready! I’m hoping to finish up my year-end and new year blogging this next week. I’m also hoping to work on a few reviews. I have some started so it would be nice to finish them up and post some in the next few weeks.

  1. My allergies used to always get worse in the winter when the heat went on if it was a house with forced air / central air because the duct and mold from the basement would come up through the system. Now I have central air, allergy pills which work and no basement. I moved north originally though to try to live somewhere the things which made me sick didn’t live much of the year. Now with the right allegry meds I live in NC.

I also got Trace of Evil from the library but on audiobook since that is all I can read while being in the car all day or working on projects.

I hope you feel better this week and enjoy some great books!

  2. Oh that’s grim. Bitterly cold weather AND allergies:(. I used to suffer badly with hay fever, but as I’ve grown older and moved closer to the coast, it has eased right down – I hope you feel a lot better very soon.

  3. I woke up to snow this morning, too. About 4 inches, but powdery so it was easy to shovel. More is expected tonight. Oh, joy. 🙂

  4. I hope your allergies settle down soon! They’re no fun.
I’m slightly envious of the snow. I absolutely adore snow but we don’t get very much of it now I live in the south of England… Growing up in Scotland, it was fairly regular.
Hope you get some good reading in this week! Have a good one. 🙂

  5. The snow is so pretty and I’m glad I can look at your pics and not have to see it up close and personal. However, winter is young! Sorry your allergies are going haywire. I have to take Benadryl each night before bed (I take 2 because I’ve built a tolerance) or I have horrible sinus/allergy headaches in the mornings. Hope you’re feeling better!
