Sunday Post: Autumn? But it’s 95 degrees!

Sunday-Post

Kimberly hosts the Sunday Post each week. I like to take part because it gives me an opportunity to look back at last week and forward to next week in both my personal life and my blog and book life! I also love to see what other people are doing and what books everyone is reading.

Hot Autumn Equinox

Autumn arrived on Friday, but it was 95 degrees here in Iowa–certainly didn’t feel like autumn! We’ve had temps in the 90’s for three or four days this week, but according to my weather app the weather should get cooler on Tuesday with a little rain and temps in the 70’s and 50’s at night. I’m ready!

A few trees in the neighborhood have started to change color, but nothing very dramatic yet. We’re having to water plants we planted in the summer since it’s very dry here. Rain is welcome to come! Even though it was hot this last week my husband worked on a small pond he’s putting in. He got the area dug, pond in and rocks surrounding it, but still has to get a pump installed. There are a couple of waterfalls into the main pond so we should have the sound of water falling. We plan to have a bench so we can sit and enjoy it. We may put a couple of fish in this fall just to make sure we’re not hatching mosquitoes, but we’ll do plants and fish next spring.

I’ve ordered bulbs to plant this fall which should arrive in October. We still have to build the flowerbed for them! I’m looking forward to planting them since I love spring bulbs. I also bought some allium and lilies which will bloom during the summer. I hope to plant more bulbs as the years go by.

One of the houseplants I put outside for the summer–a hibiscus–has finally started to bloom! It has grown a lot during the summer and I want to repot it before I bring it back inside. My Christmas cactus also has buds!

Television

I haven’t picked out any new programs to watch yet except for the new Star Trek: Discovery show. I’m super excited to have a new Star Trek series. The first episode is Sunday night and I think it’s free to watch the first episode, but after that it’s on CBS All Access which is a subscription channel–very irritating! Not sure yet if we will subscribe. Do you have new or returning shows you’re planning to watch?

Blogging

I’m still not getting a lot of blogging done, but I’m trying to work on that. Also didn’t get much commenting done. Working on that, too. At least I’ve read some really good books!
