Sunday Post: October 23

This is a great meme to take part in every week and I thank Kimba for hosting it!

I like this meme because it gives me an opportunity to take a look back at last week and forward to next week in both my personal life and my blog and book life! I also like to see what other people are doing and what books everyone is reading.

Birthday and allergies

I didn’t get a Sunday Post done last week. We celebrated our younger daughter’s birthday all weekend. Our older daughter came for the weekend to help celebrate, too. We had a fire in the fire pit in our yard and roasted marshmallows. The next day we had a fun afternoon at a local winery and then a broiled salmon dinner and birthday cake at the end of the evening. We were so busy having fun and that the Sunday Post didn’t get done.

This week I’ve been fighting allergies so not much done several days either at home or on the internet. My eyes are itching like crazy even after several allergy pills. I’ll have to see how this next week goes to see how much I get done on my blog.

The weather is beautiful here especially this weekend with bright blue skies and temps about 70. We took a drive through some of the older neighborhoods in town and the trees and yards are beautiful.

On the road again . . .

My husband is flying to Spokane next week to drive our car back to Iowa. That will take several days, but it will be good to have our car back.

Author: Jan

I love to read--especially mysteries, science fiction and fantasy. I also love blogging, photography, gardening, playing Mah Jonng, reading with a cat on my lap, throwing a ball for a dog, creating cards to send to family and friends, reading book blogs, using my computer.

  1. What a nice selection of books!

Happy birthday to your younger daughter! The food looks and sounds delicious.

Have a good week and happy reading!

  2. Den Of Wolves looks great, but I need to read the other books first. I love your food pictures, too! Have a better week with your allergies!

  3. Love the photos, Jan! And that food looks yummy– I love oven-roasted veggies!

Glad to see you picked up Catriona King’s first book. I enjoyed it and she has such a long series to jump into! Also Elly Griffiths, one of my top favorite authors ever. I hope you enjoy her, but I have to say that as you read the next books you get even more hooked because you actually care about the main and secondary characters. And Haunted Ground and that series is something that I keep looking at over the past year or two and can’t decide, but I hope you really like it.

Have a great week ahead– and congrats on getting your car back, finally 🙂

    1. I love roasted veggies, too, Rita. That’s one of the things I love about the weather getting cooler–I don’t mind having the oven on! I use the oven lots more in the fall, winter and spring. I loved the first Elly Griffiths book I read. I’ve got the next couple on reserve at the library so just waiting for those!

  4. My eyes have been driving me CRAZY lately. I haven’t even attempted to put my contacts in because I know its a wasted effort!
I was thinking about grabbing Venom and Vanilla as my prime first reading choice for October. I still haven’t picked anything yet!
    Have a great week!

    1. I can imagine how your contacts would feel. I used to wear contacts, but as my allergies got worse it just didn’t work anymore for me.

Some months I don’t find anything I want to read with Kindle First. But other months I’ve found some good books and authors.

  5. Glad the feast with the firepit was so successful – with the onset of winter I don’t suppose you’ll be able to continue with those kinds of gatherings all that often. What a fabulous collection of books – I’m delighted to see the Miles Vorkosigan books there:)). And ‘After Atlas’ is one I’m looking forward to reading – I was blown away by ‘Planetfall’. Have a great reading week!

    1. Yes, once the winter snows start flying I don’t think we’ll have much fire pit action! Yes, I was excited to get the Miles books. I haven’t read any of these books for several years and I want to get back into them before the end of the year.
