Sunday Post: August 21

This is a great meme to take part in every week and I thank Kimba for hosting it!

I like this meme because it gives me an opportunity to take a look back at last week and forward to next week in both my personal life and my blog and book life! I also like to see what other people are doing and what books everyone is reading.

Last week–home and blog

This hasn’t been the restful, get things done week I’d hoped for. Our house in Maryland was supposed to close this week and I was looking forward to a celebration. However, at the last moment–just as we were driving to a notary so we could sign our papers we received word from our realtor that the buyers were unable to buy our house since the people who were buying their house weren’t able to get their loan.

We’ve bought and sold a lot of houses during our 30+ years of marriage (moving every three or four years), but we’ve never had one fail that late in the process before. However, it looks like we have other buyers who are interested. It means an extra one to two months of two house payments, but we’re hoping this works out. So even though it doesn’t do any good I’ve been stressed. 😦

We watched a lot of Olympics this week. And at last I got to watch equestrian events! Lots of great athletes in track and field this week, too. It’s amazing to see all the different events and athletes of the summer Olympics, but I’m not sure it’s a good thing for the host city. The host cities always spend a ton of money and a few years later it seems like many of the stadiums, pools and arenas stand empty and are falling apart.

The blog

Since I watched a lot of Olympics to keep my mind off our house sale I didn’t do a lot of blogging or reading or commenting.

Next Week–home & blog

My husband is going out-of-town for the week and then we’re meeting at my older daughter’s in Illinois to help her move to a new apartment. She was able to break her lease since she kept finding snakes in her garage and even between her patio door and the cement slab of her patio. The snakes weren’t dangerous, but the apartment management weren’t able to keep them away so they’re letting her leave–much to her relief!

What did you do last week? What books did you collect? What are you planning?

Author: Jan

I love to read--especially mysteries, science fiction and fantasy. I also love blogging, photography, gardening, playing Mah Jonng, reading with a cat on my lap, throwing a ball for a dog, creating cards to send to family and friends, reading book blogs, using my computer.

  1. That is awful about the house! I haven’t heard of things falling through that late in the process either. How disappointing but hopefully the other buyers will come through soon. That’s great about your older daughter getting out of her lease. My oldest is terrified of snakes and I think would be a basket case in that situation. You got some great books this week! I love The Secret of Chimneys. It’s such a fun romp of a mystery. Have a great week!

  2. Sorry about the house issue 😦 We had this happen once. We even went to another state to pick out a house, and came home and found a message on our answering machine from the person who was supposed to buy our house reneging on the deal (before everpresent cell phone use— this was a private sale, not through a realtor, ugh). We learned out lession and only used realtors after that mistake. Luckily in that case we also found a buyer within a month and moved on. I hate the buying and selling which is why we have rented our last couple of homes and may or may not buy our final home in a couple of years. Such an awful process! Best wishes sent your way!

I loved the new CJ Box series with Badlands in it. There are 3 so far and they’re violent but addictive. I never read the original Box series, but I jumped into this one and loved it, so hope you do too.

Have a great week and fingers crossed all goes well.

  3. Ooo yeah we have sold quite a few homes and never run into that scenario so late in the game. Hopefully it all goes smoothly and you can laugh about this a year from now. Glad things worked out for your daughter. Enjoy your new books!

  4. Aarrghhh – it can be so frustrating when a chain falls through! Fingers crossed you get another buyer soon.

I’ve been watching a lot of the Olympics too, it’s going to be a bit quiet next week…

  5. Sorry to hear about the deal falling through, that is late in the process! Yeesh. Hope all goes well going forward. I watched a lot of Olympics too, although I didn’t see enough equestrian. But those are fun to watch.

When I was in college I lived in a garden level apartment and had a snake get in the apt. It was freaky- I had two cats and one morning they were hissing and trying to get under the couch. After a few minutes of this I got worried and moved the couch. Snake! Not a big one but a snake’s a snake. Not sure how it got in, under the door?? Needless to say I didn’t stay there too long. 🙂 Glad she was able to break her lease, that’s too nerve wracking.

  6. The whole wretched business is stressful enough – without it all crashing at the last minute like that! Glad you had the Olympics on hand to take your mind off it – I’ve been glued to the TV – who knew taekwando and the ommnium were so engrossing?? But then it’s still SUCH a novelty to have GB winning medals, I’m jumping up and down like a kid. Hope you soon find another buyer and the process goes more smoothly. Take care.

  7. Oh I am sorry about the house! That is super late in the game for a deal to fall through! I mean, by that point, you aren’t even really thinking about the possibility any longer! Hopefully you get a new offer soon!
