Beyond the books–“Me” time

beyond-the-books

Beyond the Books is a weekly meme hosted at Kissin’BlueKaren. Beyond the Books is a weekly meme of mostly non-bookish topics. Share the link to your blog post at her site and we all have fun learning about each other. For more information and future topics.

I’m participating in the Beyond the Books meme when I can think of answers to the questions! I like finding out more about other bloggers. It’s fun to share a few non-bookish things about ourselves. This week the topic is what we do with “me” time.

My “me” time

I usually wake up early and it’s a great time to spend an hour or so in the quiet house reading. A great way to start the day!  A cup of coffee, a cat or two on my lap and a book. Perfect “me” time!

Another way to spend the time I have for myself is to make greeting cards for my friends and family. I love the time I spend with rubber stamps, inks, paper, paints and all the other ingredients I like to use. Sometimes it takes awhile to switch off the analytical part of my brain, but when I get in the creative groove it’s so fun to try new items or new ways of using them. Some cards look better than others and sometimes the creativity doesn’t kick in, but it’s great “me” time however it works out.

What about you? How do you use your ‘me” time?

I love to read--especially mysteries, science fiction and fantasy. I also love blogging, photography, gardening, playing Mah Jonng, reading with a cat on my lap, throwing a ball for a dog, creating cards to send to family and friends, reading book blogs, using my computer.

  1. Oooh! I used to do stationary with stamping. I used to love it every year when they had a x-mas card round table. For $20 I would get 30-40 cards that were so cool looking and everyone loved them. I do miss that.

  2. The card-making hobby is very creative, and must be relaxing for you! I just love those cards you made, wow, professional-looking but also shows you put love into them for someone.

I wish I could think of a craft to do, but I can’t do the ones I used to anymore due to my various issues… like beading jewelry, crocheting with a loom kit, doing hook rugs, making handmade Christmas ornaments. Oh well, we take the good with the bad…

And it’s lovely to just sit in the mornings and start our days off in a relaxing fashion, isn’t it? I tend to write my blog posts or answer comments on my blog while I drink my coffee. I’m not one for scheduling posts unless it’s an already-written review, so I like to sit and think and let the inspiration for my writing come freely.

    Thanks for sharing your fun.

    1. Thank you, Rita. I do enjoy making cards. So many different kinds to make. I’m sorry you’ve had to give up things you’d like to do. That’s no fun.

Isn’t it great to enjoy a relaxing morning? I sometimes visit other blogs and write posts during that time, too, though I do try to get a little bit of reading and coffee drinking time to start my day.

  3. I love the cards you made! I used to scrapbook and I loved all the embellishments they offered. These are a great gift for your family and friends.

  4. I started out scrapbooking and took a card class though I couldn’t quite see the point at the time…lol. Once I took that class I started making cards and in the years since then have only done one or two scrapbooks.
