Sunday Post: Jan 31

This is a great meme to take part in every week and I thank Kimba for hosting it!

I like this meme because it gives me an opportunity to take a look back at last week and forward to next week in both my personal life and my blog and book life! I also like to see what other people are doing and what books everyone is reading.

Last Week–home and blog

The Move

We are making progress on our move to Iowa. We spent time this week answering emails, reading the inspection reports, writing emails, talking to our realtor. Amazing how much time that all takes! I have a moving checklist and a general checklist to try to stay organized. Lots to do in the next few months.

Snow aftermath

We still have snow, but a lot has melted as temps during the day were above freezing all week. Next week the temps may make it to 60 degrees!

I’ve loved watching the birds since they finished all the food in the bird feeders and it was kind of hard to get to the feeders we put birdseed on our patio for them. The cats and I love the close-up view though one of the cats keeps jumping at the window thinking she can catch them!

The pup

We took care of our son’s dog all week. He’s a mini dachshund with lots of energy, but a happy attitude toward life. He slept beside me on my chair as I read and followed me around the house. I think he had separation anxiety–decided he didn’t want to leave me so refused to walk sometimes with my husband! A sit-down strike! Our son was at a conference in the DC area all week so we handed the pup back on Friday evening. I’m going to miss them both when we move to Iowa.

We watched both the X-Files remake and The Magicians. Enjoyed them both!

The blog

I’m still working on reviews, answering comments and commenting on other people’s blogs. It’s been great to catch up with at least a few bloggers.

Next Week–home & blog

Since I was taking care of our son’s dog all week I wasn’t able to get a lot of sorting done. I plan to work on that. And start boxing my books. That’s going to keep me busy as well as keeping track of what needs to get done with our move in March.

I’m going to concentrate on blogging ahead, getting reviews completed and scheduled. And keeping up with comments. Also I’m planning to sign up for another reading challenge or three!

What did you do last week? What books did you collect? What are you planning?

Author: Jan

I love to read--especially mysteries, science fiction and fantasy. I also love blogging, photography, gardening, playing Mah Jonng, reading with a cat on my lap, throwing a ball for a dog, creating cards to send to family and friends, reading book blogs, using my computer.

  1. I didn’t get a chance to watch The Magicians! I totally forgot about it. I’ll have to catch up with it this week. I’m hoping to catch up on all my shows this week because I broke the cable box remote last week and couldn’t access my DVR! It was torture haha

    1. Luckily, we were able to watch the first episode on demand since one of the football games went long and half of that episode wasn’t recorded. Not being able to access your DVR wouldn’t be fun at all.

  2. Thanks for the mention! I’ve been having fun on Pinterest lately. Your son’s pup sounds like quite the little love and very good company! I don’t envy you the moving work. I think I had a notebook just of lists and questions I needed to ask and we were moving a grand total of 10 miles! Have a great week!

    1. You’re welcome, Katherine. I meant to add a photo of the pup, but forgot. He’s darling. I usually like bigger dogs, but I can make an exception for him! We have moved so many times during our marriage–at least a dozen times–but it never gets any easier…lol

  3. The snow has pretty much melted here too, and with the rain today the rest will probably be gone. We’ve warmed up as well, and frankly it’s nice. The dog sounds cute! And my cats are the same- they seem to think they’re going to get the birds somehow, it is fun to watch!

Good luck with packing, and have a super week!

    1. We’re going to get rain this week, too, and yesterday it got up to 63 degrees! I’m surprised there’s as much snow on the ground as there is.

  4. I’m someone who has also moved many times during our marriage and it never gets easier, cheaper, or less stressful 🙂 Hope yours is smooth sailing.

I have a grandpup who is a Daschund and she came to them as a rescued neglected gal and is enjoying her life with the family and her big sister, who is a Pit Bull, and the family cat. She is the boss of the pets though, with her tough swagger and announcing bark. They are cute!

Yikes, we meant to watch the New X-Files, will have to search for it, and hubby was talking of watching the original series also sometime.

    1. I sure agree with that, Rita. We had money put aside for the move, but we already have things we hadn’t budgeted for. I hadn’t been around a Dachshund before, but I can see how people can love them. My son’s dog also swaggers, is brave, lighthearted and so fun to watch as he tries to play with the cats.

I hope you can find the X-Files, Rita. We had watched the original series and loved some of them. Some of the shows were a little too scary and bloody for me, but the ones that dealt with aliens were great.

  5. We’ve been in the 70s and sunny here. Nice to open windows while it lasts. Funny how a dog attaches to certain people. Needed some mothering:) And sounds like the inspection went okay. Happy for you!

    1. I can’t believe that one day the high temp will be 38 degrees and a couple days later it’s in the 60’s. Crazy weather around here. The inspection had a couple of issues we’re negotiating with the sellers. We’re excited to move forward, but lots to do around our house here.

  6. A new home and moving is lots of work, but I’m sure once you’re all settled in it will be so worth it! I don’t think I’ve congratulated you yet on your successful house hunt, so here’s my big congrats to you! 🙂

    1. Thanks so much, Mogsy! I love the house we’ve gotten and think we will be very happy there. Not looking forward to the packing and unpacking, but we should be settled in by late spring so looking forward to that time…lol.

  7. I watched The Magicians yesterday. I was really impressed. It’s really very good, and I got hooked immediately, unlike The Expanse, which took a couple episodes. I haven’t watched The X-Files reboot yet, because I’m still marathoning the old episodes. Even though I saw them back in the day, I had forgotten a lot, and am enjoying the re-watch. I’m finally on season 7, so I’ll probably marathon the new season when I’m done.

    Good luck with move!

    1. I agree, Tiffany. The Magicians is very watchable. And The Expanse–which I like–is a little harder to get into since so much is going on in multiple threads. I want to watch some of the old X-File episodes, too.

  8. Love the new header – I hadn’t seen it before today! It looks great.

The new XFiles debuted here in Oz a week later than the US so has been on these past two nights. I’ve taped it so looking forward to it, though I’ve heard mixed things!

    1. Thanks, Deborah! I’m changing my header every month (from September on). After that I’ll decide what I want to do. I hope you enjoy X-Files when you watch it.

  9. I missed the new X-Files so I’ll have to catch them online. I heard about the Magicians so I need to watch that too. I also have Walk On Earth A Stranger but I haven’t read it yet. I hope you enjoy it and all your new books. Have a great week!
