Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted at the Broke and the Bookish blog. Each week a different topic is introduced and it is fun to see what everyone writes each week. Check out their blog for more information.
This week–the hyped books I haven’t read . . . because sometimes I’m just not interested even though I know many people enjoyed them.
Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn–I don’t like psychological thrillers
The DaVinci Code by Dan Brown–My husband and my daughter read it and liked it, but I just didn’t get into it
The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson–too violent
The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks–haven’t been able to get into any of his books
Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert–just not interested
The Shining by Stephen King–I don’t like horror
The Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger–I don’t like chick lit
The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger–Not a romance
The Fault in Our Stars by John Green–Not interested
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak–I love books, but just don’t feel like reading this
What are the hyped books you haven’t read?
I’ve only read two of the books on your list (The Da Vinci Code and The Fault in Our Stars), and three of them actually made my list! Maybe bloggers don’t read as many hyped books as the general population…

Yeah, that could be, Kayla. I have read some hyped books, of course.

I used to read a lot of them, but I tend to avoid them unless someone that I *really* trust has something good to say about it. 🙂

Yes, I tend to wait with a really hyped book for someone I trust to say what they liked or didn’t like. I also have a pretty good sense whether I’m going to like certain books or not.

With the exception of Gone Girl and The DaVinci Code this could’ve easily been my last. In fact we have quite a bit of overlap. I read and liked both of those books pretty well but I can see that they wouldn’t be for everyone. Oh wait I did read The Notebook as well but I’m kind of in the minority there as I didn’t love it. It felt a little too emotionally manipulative for me. Great list!

Thanks, Katherine. I’m sure I’d probably like some of these books if I read them, but with so many books I want to read first I doubt I’ll ever get to them.

I find it funny that your list consists of books I’m also not interested in (The Shining, Da Vinci Code, Devil Wears Prada) and books I really enjoyed (Time Traveler’s Wife, The Book Thief, Girl with the Dragon Tatoo).

That is funny, Wendy! I would probably like some of these books if I read them. Oh, well.

I’m with you on Gone Girl and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (as you know, since you read my list!) And The Shining, too – I don’t read horror. Ever. [shudders] Eat, Pray, Love didn’t grab me, and I tried reading The DaVinci Code at a bad time for that sort of book, so I didn’t finish it. I actually haven’t read any of the ones on your list, though I’m not actively opposed to some of the others, just not drawn to them enough to make them a priority.
