Books I’ll never read

toptentuesday2Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted at the Broke and the Bookish blog. Each week a different topic is introduced and it is fun to see what everyone writes each week.Check out their blog for more information.

This week I’m talking about the books I’ll never read. Of course, there are hundreds of books I’ll never read! There just isn’t enough time to read everything I want to read let alone the books I don’t want to read!

I’ve reached the point in my life where I no longer feel the need to read what I don’t want to read. I read lots of the classics–both modern and old when I was younger–usually in school. And I loved some of them. Others not so much…LOL. I’m glad I read them, but don’t feel the need to read the ones I’ve listed here. I’ve listed both old and new books here. Not all are necessarily classics or on “reading lists,” but I still don’t want to read them!

I know many love these books and I might love some of them, too, if I read them, but realistically I know I won’t read them!

The “Reading List” books:

1. War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy–This was a book I always meant to read, but I don’t think I will now. I did read Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky and hated it!

2. A Separate Peace by John Knowles–I don’t remember hearing about this book when I was in school and know it’s not the type of book I want to read now.

3. The Red Badge of Courage by Stephen Crane–I read other 19th century authors (such as, The Scarlet Letter, Tom Sawyer, Jane Eyre, A Tale of Two Cities), but not this one!

4. The Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger–This is on most high school and college reading lists, but I’ve never read it. When I looked at reading lists of Goodreads I was surprised by how many I have read, however! (For example, I’ve read To Kill a Mockingbird, Oedipus Rex, Brave New World, The Great Gatsby and A Doll’s House, and many others–all found on the same reading list as The Catcher in the Rye.)

5. The Sound and the Fury by William Faulkner–I’m not a fan of “Southern” authors!

Other books I’ll never read:

6. Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand–I haven’t read anything by Ayn Rand and am not very interested in her philosophy!

7. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies by Seth Grahame-Smith–I don’t like zombies and I don’t see the need to add them to Pride and Prejudice!

8. Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert–I know lots of people love this book, but I just don’t read books like this.

9. In Cold Blood by Truman Capote–The fact this is a true crime story gives me the heebie jeebies!

10. The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson–I think it’s too gruesome and violent for me.

What books are you never going to read? And why not?
