The book I’m excited about this week:

The Heart of Betrayal by Mary E. Pearson

Series: The Remnant Chronicles #2

Publication Date: July 7, 2015

Synopsis from Goodreads: Held captive in the barbarian kingdom of Venda, Lia and Rafe have little chance of escape. Desperate to save her life, Lia’s erstwhile assassin, Kaden, has told the Vendan Komizar that she has the gift, and the Komizar’s interest in Lia is greater than anyone could have foreseen.

Meanwhile, nothing is straightforward: there’s Rafe, who lied to Lia, but has sacrificed his freedom to protect her; Kaden, who meant to assassinate her but has now saved her life; and the Vendans, whom Lia always believed to be barbarians. Now that she lives amongst them, however, she realizes that may be far from the truth. Wrestling with her upbringing, her gift, and her sense of self, Lia must make powerful choices that will affect her country… and her own destiny.

What made me pick this book:

  • I really liked the first book in this series.
  • A nice cover!

Author: Jan

I love to read--especially mysteries, science fiction and fantasy. I also love blogging, photography, gardening, playing Mah Jonng, reading with a cat on my lap, throwing a ball for a dog, creating cards to send to family and friends, reading book blogs, using my computer.

  1. Ah, this is the sequel to Kiss of Deception? The cover motif sort of clued me in to that. I still need to read the first book, and I’m glad to hear you liked it!

  2. That really is a nice cover! Plus having it match the first book is a must (I can’t stand it when the second book in a series undergoes a cover change…). I haven’t actually read Kiss of Deception – I was scared off by the love triangle. If you like the second book as much as the first, I may have to jump on board!
