Top new series I want to start

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted at the Broke and the Bookish blog. Each week a different topic is introduced and it is fun to see what everyone writes each week.

This week we are talking about the new series (new within the last year or two) we want to start. The following books are all the first books in a series and I own all but one of these books, but haven’t started them yet!

I list the first book in the series and then the name of the series. As usual these are in no particular order:

1. Thief’s Magic by Trudi Canavan–Millennium’s Rule series. The synopsis begins “In a world where an industrial revolution is powered by magic….” That sounds so awesome!

2. Dirty Magic by Jaye Wells–Prospero’s War series. The second book in the series came out in August 2014. It sounds like a really interesting new urban fantasy series.

3. Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie–Imperial Radch series. This book won the Hugo, Nebula, British Science Fiction, Locus and Arthur C. Clarke Awards. The second book was just published so I need to get reading!

4. The Thousand Names by Django Wexler–The Shadow Campaigns series. An epic fantasy and the second book is out in this series, too!

5. Binary Witness by Rosie Claverton–The Amy Lane Mystery series. I just bought this book. I’ve started reading more mysteries in the last month and this series sounds really interesting.

6. Gameboard of the Gods by Richelle Mead–Age of X series. I’ve read a few of Richelle Mead’s other books and think this sounds quite interesting.

7. Sparrow Hill Road by Seanan McGuire–Ghost Stories series. The October Daye urban fantasy series by Seanan McGuire is one of my favorite series. I’ve gotten Sparrow Hill Road from my library and want to start this book. It sounds quite different from the October Daye series.

8. Dust and Light by Carol Berg–The Sanctuary Duet series. This book takes place in the same world as two of the author’s previous books, but it’s the first book in this series. I haven’t read the first two books, but don’t think I’ll need to. The synopsis asks the question “How much must one pay for an hour of youthful folly?

9. The Falconer by Elizabeth May–The Falconer series. This is a historical fantasy which takes place in 1844 in Scotland with faeries! Sounds pretty awesome.

10. Omens by Kelley Armstrong–Cainsville series. I’ve read several books by Kelley Armstrong and they’re very good. This sounds like an intense and interesting series.

What new series do you want to start reading?

Author: Jan

I love to read--especially mysteries, science fiction and fantasy. I also love blogging, photography, gardening, playing Mah Jonng, reading with a cat on my lap, throwing a ball for a dog, creating cards to send to family and friends, reading book blogs, using my computer.

  1. Aside from The Falconer – which I’m definitely going to pick up soon – I haven’t heard of the other series in this list. However, they all sound intriguing to I’m really going to check them out.

Great list! Thanks for adding a ton more books to my tbr pile, LOL.

  2. Kelly Armstrong is on my list of authors to try. I hadn’t heard of Elizabeth May before but that series sounds really interesting as well! Adding it to my toppling list!

  3. I’d like to try May’s book. And I loved both Leckie and Wexler’s series thus far. I tried Gameboard of the Gods and quit, but that could have been the audio narrator causing me issues.

    1. May, Leckie and Wexler are ones I need to read soon! I’ve heard Gameboard of the Gods wasn’t as easy to get through, but that the second book was much better…

  4. I Have Ancillary Justice sitting on my Kindle waiting to be read – it definitely seems like a series that must at least be attempted. The others on here I am less familiar with but agree that Thiefs Magic sounds intriguing and I am also quite attracted by The Falconer! Dust and Light also sounds like it might be good.

  5. Couple top priority ones there on my own list as well, including Gameboard of the Gods and Dirty Magic. I’d love to start a Seanan Maguire series as well, starting with October Daye.

  6. I’m loving Kelley’s Cainsville books; I bought the second book in Claverton’s series but haven’t read the first one yet; Sparrow Hill Road didn’t wow me; and I have Dirty Magic on my wish list.
