The Sunday Post is a meme hosted by Kimba at Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
I like this meme because it gives me an opportunity to take a look back at last week and forward to next week in both my personal life and my blog and book life! I also like to see what other people are doing and what books everyone is reading. This is a great meme to take part in every week and I thank Kimba for hosting it!
Last Two Weeks
Home & blog
I didn’t do a Sunday Post last week since I was in the Wisconsin North Woods and I didn’t have either the time (I was having fun with family activities) or the internet connection (the worst problem). We had about 75 family and friends and lots of fun activities–swimming, eating, boating, eating, etc., etc.!
I flew to Des Moines the day before we left for Wisconsin. My daughter and I came back Monday of this week and we’ve got the house puppy-proofed for the puppy she’s getting next week. She’s very excited and a little apprehensive!
My older daughter drove to Des Moines from Illinois this weekend. We’ve had so much fun together. The Iowa State Fair is going on now and it’s amazing all the food they put on sticks!

Around the internet
- Sync downloads
Sync is a site for young adult audiobooks. In the summer (beginning May 15 to August 13) they offer two free audiobooks each week.
Note: This is the last week for the free books for this summer.
August 7 – August 13
LIVING A LIFE THAT MATTERS by Ben Lesser, Narrated by Jonathan Silverman and Ben Lesser (Remembrance Publishing)
THE SHAWL by Cynthia Ozick, Narrated by Yelena Shmulenson (HighBridge Audio)
Check out the entire Sync schedule.
- So many new adaptations from books
The Outlander series of books by Diana Gabaldon made into a TV series on Starz. It started August 9. You can watch the first episode for free at Starz.com, on demand on TV or on the STARZ play app. Here’s a review of the series.
The Syfy channel is developing John Scalzi’s Old Man’s War into a series (calling it The Ghost Brigades). Syfy is also interested in a pilot based on Lev Grossman’s The Magician and a series based on Leviathan Wakes by James S. A. Corey. I hope these will become successful, well-done series.
A Wrinkle in Time by Madeline L’Engle is being adapted into a possible movie for Disney.
Into the Woods–not an adaptation from a book, but one of my favorites musicals (music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim) and I just discovered it’s being made into a movie by Disney set to open in the U. S. on Christmas Day 2014. It stars Meryl Streep (as the witch), Johnny Depp, Chris Pine, Anna Kendrick and Emily Blunt. I hope they’ve done a good job. A teaser trailer

My daughter and I pick up the puppy–a black female Labrador Retriever–next Saturday so this week will be busy making sure we are ready! She’s planning to name the puppy Bailey.
