Sunday Post: Family birthday fun

October 22, 2017 2017, Sunday Post 14

Kimberly hosts the Sunday Post each week. I like to take part because it gives me an opportunity to look back at last week and forward to next week in both my personal life and my blog and book life! I also love to see what other people are doing and what books everyone is reading.

Family birthday

A very busy week. This is my younger daughter’s birthday weekend so we’ve done lots of fun things this weekend plus doing a bit of planning during the week. My older daughter came from Illinois to help celebrate and we’ve all had so much fun. Saturday morning we went to a craft store which has lots of activities to choose from–painting pottery, fused glass, making candles as well as painting parties. We decided to paint pottery and we had so much fun we ended up staying over four hours. I painted a fox and a star lantern. My daughters painted an octopus and a dragon plus the birthday girl painted a winter scene on a small plate. We’ll see how they all look once they’re fired. We pick them up next weekend. We had so much fun! My husband didn’t paint pottery with us, but we all went out to dinner Saturday night and came home for birthday cake and a board game called Train. Such a fun day.

Yard work and home work

The weather was beautiful all week, but once again we got rain on the weekend! During the week we (mostly my husband) worked in the backyard. He’s putting in a brick extension on the patio (which is only a small cement slab now). He mowed and cleaned the yard a bit and put up bird feeders.

We also had new higher seat toilets put in. Our toilets were the original toilets in our 30-year-old house and the shut off valves were stuck so that made the job take longer.

I still haven’t decided what I’m doing for reviews, but I am trying to get more posts done ahead of time so when I have a busy week I will have things to post.

I forgot to post my sign up post for the HoHoHo Readathon so will do that this week.

Interesting on the Internet

Type M for Murder blog had a post by author Vicki Delany about Rapid Reads Novellas and the story she wrote for them. Rapid Reads Novellas are short books for adults with low literacy skills–ESL students, the elderly who might not have an attention span for a longer book, or anyone who wants an exciting fast read. This sounds like an excellent program. Vicki Delany also writes one of my favorite police procedural series–the Constable Molly Smith series.

What did you do last week? What did you read? What books did you collect?

You’re garden looks lovely and big – and the autumn colours are beautiful. We went to one of those pottery painting evenings a couple of years ago and it was great fun – I’m delighted the birthday week-end was so successful. I hope you have a great week – and enjoy ‘Running Out of Space’!.

Thank you so much for your review and rating of Running Out of Space – I’m so touched you went to the time and trouble of reading it and posting your review where it would help the most:)). And thrilled you enjoyed it so much.
We still haven’t managed to get around to putting the garden to bed – every time we get a chance, it pours with rain!

You’re welcome, Sarah! I really enjoyed Running Out of Space and want to give it the chance it should have.

It’s quite cold here today (40 degrees with 25 mph gusts) so no outdoor work. I hope it warms up some next week so we can get the yard work done!

Happy birthday to your youngest daughter! Sounds like you had a good time celebrating! I love pottery places though I haven’t been to any of the ones here in forever. Unfortunately my artistic skills don’t match up to what I envision in my head but it’s still fun. Isn’t an older house fun! Mine is just over 30 years and we’re regularly stumbling into issues that range from puzzling to annoying. I can’t imagine living in a house that’s 100+ years. The level of issues is just mind boggling! Enjoy your books and have a great week!

I agree about the house issues, Katherine. We’ve actually been quite lucky and haven’t had too many issues–though the big one still to be fixed is our long concrete driveway which goes uphill and is eroding underneath. Thus, the concrete slabs are cracked. We didn’t notice the driveway when we looked at the house since there was snow. 🙁 Our daughter lives in a house built in the 20’s and it is well-built, but she’s had some issues.

I hadn’t ever done pottery before, but it was lots of fun and a great birthday activity.
