Banning books for what reason?

Banning books for what reason?

September 19, 2013 2013, books 0

Looking at the list of 100 top banned books made me laugh, not because I think people trying to ban books is funny, but because many of the books people think are dangerous enough to ban are just plain laughable. Captain Underpants? It may be a dumb book full of fart jokes and other things adults don’t think are funny, but dangerous? Threatening to young minds or morals? I don’t buy it. Many of the books on the list were just baffling to me. Who thought A Wrinkle in Time needed to be banned? Too fanciful? Don’t like the idea of space travel or monsters or really smart kids? I’m in Iowa visiting my younger daughter Karen this week. I’ve finally talked her into occasionally contributing to this blog! I’m excited since she’ll bring a different point of view. She wrote a post which will appear later today. It’s a post about banned books. I wrote about banned books yesterday and now Karen shares her thoughts. I don’t know how often she’ll write something…we’ll play it by ear. Karen’s a 20-something who loves to read. We read some of the same books, but she has her own interests, too. I think she will soon add a post telling more about herself. Now I need to work on my older… Read more »

It’s interesting to go to the ALA website and read through the different lists and articles about banned and challenged books. In the list Rita_h has used The Harry Potter series is number 1 on this list! So many of the books on this list really surprised me (To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky, … Read more »

The other five are books already in my TBR books which I definitely plan to read this fall. Top 5 Books Published this fall I hope to buy and read! September 1.
