Shakespeare’s Christmas by Charlaine Harris Series: Lily Bard #3 Genre: Mystery Published originally by Minotaur, 1998 e-book, Library 260 pages Grade: B+ Synopsis: Lily heads to her hometown of Bartley for her estranged sister’s Christmas Eve wedding. But there is something in the air besides holiday cheer—there’s murder. And Lily must work fast to clean up the messy case before her sister promises to love, honor, and obey a killer.   The town’s seasonal centerpiece (since the manger scene had to be removed) was a huge Christmas tree on the courthouse lawn; the churches sponsored a big public party to decorate it. In consequence, it looked very homey rather than… Read more »

Christmas in July Read-a-Thon

Christmas in July Read-a-Thon

July 27, 2014 2014, Read-a-Thons 0

I need to plan these activities better. Of course, it didn’t help I thought there was another weekend in July so the read-a-thon was totally supposed to be next weekend! When I figured out it was this weekend I started a novella by Courtney Milan–This Wicked Gift. However, it’s Sunday night and I’m not even done with a novella! So . . . that’s the story of Christmas in July for me! Next time I’ll try to plan better.

Fairy Tale with a Twist Read-a-Thon

July 12, 2014 2014, COYER Summer Vacation, Read-a-Thons, Reading Challenges 2

I’ve signed up for the COYER Read-a-thon for this weekend–Fairy Tales with a Twist! I planned to read one of the Eloisa James books I have–The Ugly Duchess or Once Upon a Tower. I usually like Ms. James’ books, but when I started The Ugly Duchess I just didn’t like it. The male character’s father is awful. I like his son so far, but he agrees to marry the girl in the book–his best friend–without telling her the truth. If I had continued I might have enjoyed the book, but the prospect of lies, his father calling the girl ugly repeatedly just was too much. Another time I might have… Read more »

My first progress update for the Bout of Books 10 Read-a-thon includes both Monday and Tuesday. I wasn’t online Monday or Tuesday since my daughter doesn’t have internet yet at her new house. I’m going to put the books in percentages read since I read books on my Kindle. The audiobook will show the hours I’ve listened with the total amount of time in the book. (I’ve only begun my audiobook today so that progress will show up tomorrow!) White Night by Jim Butcher–I’ve read 60% since Monday.

Bout of Books 10 Goals

Bout of Books 10 Goals

May 14, 2014 2014, books, Read-a-Thons 1

I signed up for Bout of Books 10 before my daughter asked me to come to Iowa and help her move into her new house. Thus, I haven’t had a chance to join challenges or twitter chats. The only thing I’ve done is some reading and listening to an audiobook! My daughter doesn’t have internet yet at her new house and I’ve been there putting in shelf paper and waiting for people to show up for TV service and carpet cleaning. Thus, for now I will just give my reading goals: White Night by Jim Butcher The Winter Sea by Susanna Kearsley (audiobook) Au Revoir, Crazy European Chick by Joe… Read more »

Bout of Books 10

May 1, 2014 2014, books, Read-a-Thons 4

I’ve decided to participate in the Bout of Books Readathon. This is my first time participating in this readathon, but I have many books I want to read. Since I only read about two books a week I’m hoping to read a bit more–maybe 3 or 4 books! I’m also helping my daughter move that week so we’ll see how I do, but I am looking forward to participating.  I want to participate in some of the challenges and the twitter chats. The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins… Read more »
